So It was Weiner's Weeny...lol

So I tried to give New York Congressman Anthony Weiner the benefit of the doubt in his photo scandal. He decided to admit in a press conference that he had lied about him sending a picture of his crotch to a woman on twitter. “The picture was of me, and I sent it,” said Weiner (D), who called it “a very dumb thing to do,” “a hugely regrettable mistake” and “destructive.”
Yes it is Mr. Weiner and you should have just admitted it in the first place. I hope you did not think that you were fooling anyone when you tried to leave the door open to possibly let yourself off the hook.

Today the distinguished gentleman from New York decided to come totally clean or so we think. He admitted not only to sending the crotch shot to one young lady but to sending multiple inappropriate messages to multiple women. That usually means he has finally gotten out ahead of the story and is waiting for some more stuff to come out.

Also in his press conference Weiner stated that he did nothing illegal and would not resign. A very bold statement by Weiner and we will have to see if he sticks to that claim.

Political Future of The Weiner
The political future for Mr. Weiner could be a very tricky one. At first glance I figured he would be fine because as of right now its just a picture and it will blow over. News stories seem big when they come out but ones like this tend to die when the next big story breaks. At age 46 he was seen to have a very bright future ahead of him. Being considered one of the leading candidates to be the next mayor of New York City. That may not be an option anymore but he still could still be apart of politics.

Here are the good things for the congressman from New York. He is a congressman and his next election is not until 2012 and there will be much bigger fish to fry in that election. Also people don't really pay attention to who their congressman and usually vote for the familiar name. He is a seven term representative for his district so those people usually don't take a guy even over a sex scandal. Before all of the mess he is in now he had a pretty solid hold on his district, winning the last election by 22 percentage points.

The bad thing is that Republicans need this kind of fresh scandal to run with. They have John Edwards to beat up on but he is not an active politician right now. Most of the bad sex scandals lately have come on the GOP side of the aisle. Paul Lindsay, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee has already fired out a shot. Saying that “It’s time for Democratic leadership to explain why Congressman Weiner’s actions never aroused any suspicion and why they rushed to his defense while so many Americans were shocked and confused by his bizarre and disturbing behavior,”. This is not unusual in politics the Democrats did something similar in 2006 with House Republican's Tom Foley situation.

In the beginning there was a lot of strong support from his fellow Democrats and as of right now it can not be called if they are going to sacrifice him to the political wolves or try to protect him. After Weiner was done confessing, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) stated that she had urged him to tell the truth prior to this revelation. She also mentioned that the House Ethics Committee should launch investigation.

Contrary to her statements Senator Charles Schumer from the congressman's home state of New York said that “I am deeply pained and saddened by today’s news,". He went on to say that “By fully explaining himself, apologizing to all he hurt and taking full responsibility for his wrongful actions, Anthony did the right thing. He remains a talented and committed public servant, and I pray he and his family can get through these difficult times.”

Not saying that the party is split on this but it is obvious that there is on clear lane of which way the party as a whole will go on this subject. I now what we will see is Republicans and Democrats acting as if he was the first and last congressman ever to have a scandal. So be prepared to see a lot stones thrown.

The Wife is The Wild Card

Being married to a woman with powerful connections is usually a good thing until you cross her. Weiner's wife of less than one year is Huma Abedin, a close aide of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Now because their marriage was so short she could easily disassociate herself with him and say that she had no clue that her husband was such a cheater and be done with him.

According to Weiner, his wife knew about prior internet relationships that he had in the past. One thing is knowing about and another is the world knowing about them. Women tend to get over cheating but few get over being embarrassed. Luckily for Weiner political marriages do not exactly follow any strict script. Just look at Abedin's current boss Hilary Clinton. She had to endure one of the most embarrassing public dramas of all time. She stayed with her husband and moved on to bigger and better things in the world of public service. I guess its all a just wait and see.
